It’s time for senior photos! Are you ready? Maybe you’re excited for your session… or maybe you’re just doing it to make your mom happy. Either way, I’ve got you covered with a senior photo experience tailored just for you, your interests, and your personality.

Even though every session with me is different, there are a few things that are (almost) always true of my sessions. Let’s talk about some of the things you can expect when you book a session with me!

Choosing a location

One of the first questions I ask is if you have a location in mind. If you don’t, that’s fine! I’ll help you pick one that you’ll love. But I will try to give you as much input as you want to have. Kensley loved iconic Boston so we picked three different spots in the city to work with for her session.

Natural settings are always a very popular choice for seniors in the Metrowest area of Boston. I look for a location that has variety, with some architectural features as well as beautiful trees or flowers–and of course gorgeous golden hour light.

If you prefer an urban style, Boston, Lowell, and even many smaller cities and towns offer that vibe. You don’t have to go all the way into the big city to get that look if it’s what you love.

Mixing up angles and poses

Some of my clients are worried that they don’t know how to pose. Don’t be nervous–you can let me handle that and relax! I’ll tell you everything you need to do. We’ll get close-up shots, traditional headshots that work for the yearbook, and a variety of full-body, three-quarter, and torso angles. I’ll also be looking for interesting wide-angle environmental portraits if the location lends itself to that.

Bringing the fun with creative shots

While you’ll get a lot of traditional senior photos, I’m also looking for opportunities to get creative shots that will tell the story of your session. This is where your location, your personality, and even your hobbies and interests will shine. Even though Kensley kept it simple, you can always include sports, dance, or just about anything in your photos.

Changing outfits (100% recommend!)

More than one outfit choice is a great way to add variety to your photos and express your personality. I love when my clients bring an extra outfit or two to mix things up. You can dress it up or down, or show something that’s unique about you through clothing and accessories. I have a changing tent to make it easy no matter where we are.

Including other people (and more!) in your session

Sometimes I get asked if parents should come along to sessions. For me there is never a “should.” If you’re more comfortable on your own, that’s great! But I’m always happy to have mom, dad, or siblings along for moral support and a few shots together. Or bring your significant other, your best friend, your pet… you name it. I only ask if you’re going to bring a pet along, you have a backup person to help when they aren’t in the shots.

Is fall the best time for a session?

Well, that really depends. If you love fall foliage and have your heart set on those colors being in your photos, then you pretty much want October. Just be aware that’s the busiest time for photographers and the most popular month in New England, so you definitely need to book early! You have a lot more flexibility if foliage isn’t important to you. Spring, summer, and even winter all make for fun and different sessions in all kinds of locations.
