I had a pretty busy fall, and one of the highlights was definitely photographing this birth at Emerson Hospital<\/a>\u00a0in Concord, Massachusetts. This wonderful family hired me to document the birth of their last baby (#5!) which was going to be a surprise if it was a boy or a girl.\u00a0I was so excited to find out that\u00a0mama was being induced and we could make plans for going to the hospital. I got there right when they did at 7 a.m. so every moment was captured, from their arrival with big sis A, who was six and really wanted to be there for the birth.<\/p>\n

There was a lot of waiting–filling out paperwork, getting monitors set, and starting the Pitocin. Mama hadn’t been induced before so no one really knew how long it would take to get going, but we were prepared to hang out. Miss A did her homework, mama ordered some food (they let you eat before you give birth now–really??), and we all … waited.<\/p>\n

The nurses suggested a walk around the halls so we went to check out the nursery. It was super quiet–no babies! At least not yet…<\/p>\n

By that time the Pitocin was starting to kick in. Miss A wanted to snuggle with her mom before things got too intense.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately A got a little scared so I walked her out to the lobby to find her aunt–and when I got back, there was a baby! Beautiful little baby girl G. It was a little sad that I missed the very moment she entered the world, but birth is unpredictable and that’s part of what makes it such a joy to document. You never know what’s going to happen!<\/p>\n

Mom and dad were so happy their little girl was here. She was perfect and nursed right away like a champ!<\/p>\n

Big sis A got to be the first in the family to meet her new little sister.<\/p>\n

Then the nurse cleaned miss G up, got her weighed and footprinted, and I focused on the details. Such a gorgeous baby!<\/p>\n

Finally big sister and dad got to hold her before they brought in the rest of the family–G’s three big brothers, grandma, aunt, and cousin.<\/p>\n

Then everyone went home and it was just mama and her brand new precious little girl.<\/p>\n

This is a day I will never forget, and it was such an honor to provide images for these parents to remember the day they became a family of seven!
