Another month has flown by and it’s time for our lifestyle photography blog circle again. This month our theme was Adventure. I have to say, my family isn’t the most adventurous around, but I thought about what adventure means to me and I think this outing absolutely qualifies. I know I’m going to be very glad I tagged along to document the events.
We were in northern Indiana visiting with my dad and stepmom. For a few years now they have kept bikes for the kids at their house so they all can ride when we visit. The kids LOVE this tradition. Unfortunately there were some adjustments this year. Both kids outgrew their previous bikes, so my daughter took over riding my son’s bike, and my dad got a new bike for my son. It was his first bike with gears and no coaster brakes, so it wasn’t the easiest transition. But I’m proud to say that he stuck with it (with some coaching from Grandma) and conquered that bike.
One of their favorite places to ride is a park called the Riverwalk. Our last full day visiting, both kids felt up to the challenge, so my dad loaded their bikes up on his trailer and we all drove to the park. The first step was unloading the bikes and getting ready to ride.
Then they were off! Since I only had my feet and no bike, I had to shoot what I could from a distance and then wait for them to come back around.
I took a chance that they would come back over this bridge and waited there to catch them coming across. It worked!
They rode a bit more around the park and I followed as best I could. It’s hard keeping up with four people on bikes! I love the shot of my son – you can really see the determination on his face.
I did try to catch a “portrait” moment of both kids. My son was obliging, my daughter less so. Which is typical.
By the end everyone was tired and it was time to go home. What a great adventure they had!
Thanks so much for sharing in our bike adventure and joining us on our blog circle. Please keep going and see what the lovely Julia Wells has to share with us this month!
